One of my favorite podcasts is the Crime Junkie podcast. It is a true crime podcast with two hosts, Brit and Ashley. They are two good friends that came together to create this show and make a difference in the world of true crime. They upload a new episode featuring a new case each Monday, something that I can always look forward to. I have been listening to this show for a few years now and I recently analyzed one Crime Junkie episode for a project in my podcasting class that I am taking this semester.
Something that makes this podcast stand out to me compared to all of the other true crime podcasts that I have listened to, which is a lot, is that their goal isn’t to just tell a story about true crime cases. Their goal is to raise awareness about the cases they cover and that was their whole reasoning in starting the podcast in the first place. In the end of each episode they discuss resources that anyone can go to if they have any sort of information regarding the cases that they cover in each of their episodes. Whether it is a anonymous tip line or a website to learn more they alway include resources that could make a difference in the cases.
I think that because they are such good friends and they are very obviously passionate about the work that they do with this podcast, there is no question as to why they have such a massive following behind them. They added onto the idea of telling true crime stories by making it personal and that has really built their Crime Junkie community.
